The Deaf Action Center (DAC) can schedule a qualified interpreter for your meeting, appointment or event. Contact DAC as soon as you know you will need an interpreter.

 

Provide DAC with the following details:

  • Date, time and duration
  • Address and room number
  • Name of deaf consumer(s)
  • Brief description of the setting
  • Your name and phone number
  • Name and phone number of contact

24-HOUR EMERGENCY SERVICES
Deaf Action Center provides consumers access to interpreting services around the clock. An emergency pager service has been established with local hospital and law enforcement agencies to provide prompt, qualified personnel in a timely manner.

 

TELEPHONE ACCESS FOR DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING
DAC particpates as a vendor in the State of Iowa (IUB). This is a program that makes telephone communication equipment available at a minimum cost to people who have difficulty hearing or speaking on a standard telephone.

HOW DOES THE VOUCHER WORK?
This voucher system allows you to choose what best works for you in telephone communication. Vouchers cover 95% of the average cost for a standard telephone devices. You are responsible for the difference.

DO YOU QUALIFY?
You may qualify if you answer "yes" to the following questions:
-Do you live in Iowa?
-Are you older than 5 years of age?
-Do you have telephone services in your home?
-Would the telephone equipment you are requesting make telephone use easier for you?

 

Also you need to qualifiy by meeting household income guidelines.

Applications are available through the Deaf Action Center.
